GHP Psychological Services

Although crises are emotionally painful they are opportunities to develop insight into what has led up to this point and to explore and learn new ways of responding to the demands of life.

Experienced, compassionate psychological therapy built on more than 30 years of clinical practice.

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with adults across the NHS, prisons, and hospital settings. In 2023 I established GHP Clinical Psychology Private Practice, where I offer independent, thoughtful psychological therapy. Many people seek therapy at times when life has become difficult, confusing, or painful. My role is to provide a calm, confidential space where you can speak openly, be carefully listened to, and begin to understand the patterns, experiences, and difficulties that may be shaping your life.

Who I work with

Supporting adults, couples, and young people facing complex emotional and psychological difficulties

I work with adults who may be experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. Some clients come to therapy with long‑standing struggles such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship problems. Others seek support during particularly challenging periods of life, including loss, significant transitions, or times when familiar ways of coping no longer feel sufficient.

I also work with individuals experiencing difficulties related to anger, grief, hopelessness, addictions, and relationship challenges. My practice includes working with individuals and couples experiencing sexual difficulties, drawing on additional training in psychosexual therapy.

In addition, I offer Gender Exploratory Therapy for individuals aged 16 and over. This work provides a careful and reflective space to explore experiences of gender‑related distress and the broader developmental questions that may accompany them.

What the expect in your first session

An initial meeting to understand your concerns and ensure therapy feels right for you

The most important predictor of successful therapy is the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. It is also essential that you feel your therapist is professionally competent and trustworthy, as therapy can involve discussing very personal and sometimes vulnerable experiences.

The first session therefore provides an opportunity for you to assess whether you feel comfortable working with me, just as much as it allows me to begin understanding the difficulties you are experiencing.

Psychological assessment typically involves building a picture of the background to your current difficulties. This may include exploring aspects of your personal history such as family relationships, important life experiences, work, and current circumstances, as well as discussing what you would like to change or achieve through therapy.

Assessment also includes identifying your strengths, resources, and personal capacities, as these are often important foundations for psychological change and growth.
